Workforce Housing Coming to Greensboro
A recent Nextdoor.com article highlights new workforce housing coming to Greensboro. On November 20, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Board reviewed a preliminary plat for phase one of the Baynes Creek subdivision at 1310 Oconee Avenue.
Phase one will include 36 single-family homes on 25 acres, targeting local employees—teachers, nurses, and public safety workers—who often can’t afford to live in Greensboro and Greene County. Studies show only a small fraction of these workers currently live in the area.
The project is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the City of Greensboro, supported by the Georgia Rural Workforce Housing Initiative. The City will receive $2.5 million from the OneGeorgia program for infrastructure, with Habitat contributing additional funds. Future phases could add up to 70 more homes.
